Abstract：

The literature on the empirical relationship between corporate social responsibility and corporate financial performance is large but the evidence is mixed. We propose a new approach to understand the issue. This approach is flexible enough to encompass other views on this issue in a coherent way. We apply this approach on US data from 1990 to 2015 and find strong empirical support for this approach. The implications of this approach are outlined and discussed.

Biography of Adrian (Wai-kong) Cheung

Dr. Adrian Cheung is Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Finance and Banking, School of Economics and Finance of Curtin University, Australia. Before joining Curtin, he was on faculty of Griffith University. He is also a Senior Research Associate of the Victoria Institute for Strategic Economic Studies, Victoria University, Australia.  He received his Ph.D. degree in finance from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). He has been a visiting scholar with HKUST and Peking University, respectively. 

Adrian's research focus is empirical finance, especially corporate governance, corporate social responsibility, and corporate finance. He has published many of his works in leading academic journals including Journal of Corporate Finance, Journal of Business Ethics, Accounting and Finance, Journal of Contemporary Accounting and Economics, Journal of Business Research, Applied Economics, Economic Modeling, Journal of Asian Economics and Review of Financial Economics.
